Hi I'm James. I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor, NCS Qualified Clinical Supervisor, and EMDR Association U.K. Registered Practitioner.
I have over 10 years of clinical experience as a full time NHS Staff Counsellor at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, delivering specialist therapies such as Counselling, EMDR, and Clinical Supervisory services to support staff within the Trust as part of its Occupational Health Services. I also have 20+ years as a professional in health and social care, education, voluntary sectors, and the specialist field of mental capacity, mental health, and human rights.
In addition to my therapeutic experience I also hold specialist professional qualifications as an Independent Mental Capacity Advocate and Deprivation of Liberty Safe guards Court of Protection Paid Representative.
Over the course of my career I have worked with a huge range of client issues as an integrative counsellor including complex trauma and psychological issues using evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and N.I.C.E. guideline-approved Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprogramming (EMDR) therapy for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
I have extensive knowledge of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, professionals, individuals, and organisations, including occupational health providers, human resources, medical deaneries, and employee assistance providers and statutory health care providers.
I am passionate about helping clients to develop and grow personally or professionally, with the aim for them to foster greater self-awareness, self-care, to enhance their wellbeing.
